Avoiding the Holiday Hustle
About to run aground? Hanging on by a thread? Feeling the end of year rush creeping in?
I went through a phase while at Google of grabbing lunch and eating it at my desk while I continued to work π©π»βπ» The emails, asks, projects, etc were endless so I was always like, 'just one moreβ¦'
After a while I realized I was miserable. I appeared productive by someone's ruler π but it was really one of the many paths I was treading towards burnout.
Zero breaks π€ͺ no rest from the constant barrage of stuff coming at me.
I felt powerless, yet I was doing it to myself.
Eventually I realized that taking a break for lunch, even just 30 minutes, and human connection was actually beneficial. It felt radical and mind blowing. It was game changing at that moment β¨
One small change and suddenly it felt like there was light. I took back a bit of my power. I found moments Pause and rest.
Rest doesn't equate to lazy. Rest isn't dirty, it's power βοΈyou have the power and are worth it!
When you rest, take a breather, or find pause, you actually set yourself up for better (performance, relationships, health, etc) and prevent the crash and burn that is unfortunately inevitable.
Eat lunch. Nourish yourself. Engage in something other than work or whatever has you feeling overwhelmed and burnt out, even if just for a few minutes. Encourage your colleagues (especially those who report to you) to do so too.
Find Your Pause.
