Esalen By Sunrise
I’m back in San Francisco after four incredible weeks at Esalen in Big Sur. As I slowly integrate myself back into life here - both mentally and physically - I’m starting to think about how and what to share of my experiences. Some aspects of the time I find incredibly easy to describe and talk about, that’s the tangible stuff. What’s much more difficult is the intangible and for me that’s where the power and magic of Esalen live.
As a start to processing the experience I reviewed and created a collection of sunrise photos. Most days I had to be at work in the kitchen at 7AM which meant I was able to catch the sunrise from one of my favorite spots on the Esalen property. A few days into being there I decided I’d capture the view every morning, even if I wasn’t working, from the same vantage point. Some days were absolutely stunning and breathtaking while others were pouring down rain with little visibility. Regardless, I snapped a pic and stood for a moment to linger with the view. Each time I look back at a day’s image I take a deep breath in and can almost feel the clean sea air back in my lungs.
