Rest isn't a Reward
‘Do you ever get anywhere?’ Asks the Hare.
‘Yes.’ Replied the tortoise. ‘And I get there sooner than you think’
As the story goes, the hare was mocking and ridiculing the tortoise for their slow and steady way through life, for going at their own pace rather than sprinting ahead and exhausting themselves in the hustle.
We are so trained against anything deemed as slowness, rest, or pause. It’s viewed as weak and lazy. Hustle culture wants us to believe there’s no such thing as rest til the end - that it’s a reward of some sort.
However, to embrace rest is radical and isn’t a reward.
Embracing rest, pause, and perhaps a slower pace is to reclaim your power, extend and recharge your energy, to invite in the space to choose differently.
Start small, begin with Pause. It is the gateway afterall.
Notice your breath. Savor the sun on your face. Take a moment to gather yourself before yelling or reacting so you can respond. Pause on the couch or in the car before jumping into the next thing.
Find Your Pause.
